Ready to find medieval beauty in its purest form?

Sint-Eucheriuskapel

This chapel is a restored Romanesque hall church from the 12th century, notable for its sturdy limestone construction and rounded arches. Its straightforward, balanced architectural style is typical of the Meuse-Romanesque period. Set amidst the open landscapes characteristic of the Limburg area, the chapel’s understated rural charm is enhanced by nearby parishes such as Rijkel and Zepperen, each home to historic churches associated with local saints.

Archaeological and Historical Findings

Studies indicate the chapel was built in the 12th century using local stone, firmly rooted in Meuse-Romanesque architectural traditions. Its layout comprises a single nave with minimal decorative elements, reflecting its original purpose centered on practical worship rather than elaborate design. Restoration projects have helped maintain many original features, especially the walls and arches, which largely preserve their medieval form. The chapel also attracts pilgrims who come to honor Saint Bertilia, one of three related saints also commemorated in the nearby parishes of Rijkel and Zepperen.

Accessibility and Visitor Information

The chapel is easily accessible, with parking available within 100 meters. The route from the parking area to the chapel entrance is flat and well maintained, making it accessible to visitors with basic mobility. There are no major inclines, steps, or uneven areas along this path. The chapel is open to visitors free of charge.
