Lydford Gorge

Lydford Gorge stretches for nearly 2 kilometers through a steep, wooded valley carved by the River Lyd. With rock walls that rise as high as 35 meters, the gorge features a lush temperate rainforest environment and dramatic landmarks, including the 30 meter Whitelady Waterfall and the swirling Devil’s Cauldron, where a platform allows views over the fast-moving river. The gorge is a haven for rare plants and wildlife, with trails that lead visitors through ancient woodland, past mossy boulders, and along the remnants of the old Great Western Railway. Nearby, the historic village of Lydford and the ruins of Lydford Castle add to the area’s rich heritage.
