Boscawen-Un Stone Circle
Boscawen-Un is a Bronze Age stone circle situated near St Buryan in western Cornwall, close to the A30 road connecting Penzance and Land's End. The circle comprises nineteen upright stones, eighteen made of pale grey granite and one striking bright quartz stone, set in a slightly elliptical layout measuring about 24.9 by 21.9 metres. At its center stands a 2.7-metre-long stone leaning northeast, with its tip rising approximately two metres above the ground. A wide gap along the western side of the circle may indicate either missing stones or possibly an original entrance. Located within the Penwith district, an area rich in Bronze Age sites including the nearby Merry Maidens circle and the Pipers standing stones, Boscawen-Un’s quartz stone presents a vivid contrast to the granite and reflects light in a way that has led to theories about its symbolic meaning.
