Grimspound Settlement
Grimspound is a Late Bronze Age settlement located in a sheltered valley between Hookney and Hameldown tors, about 450 meters above sea level. It features a large, roughly oval enclosure formed by a substantial granite wall, originally about 1.5 meters high, now partially weathered and reduced. The wall encloses an area of approximately 1.6 hectares and contains the remains of 24 small stone hut circles, circular foundations of dwellings typically 3 to 5 meters in diameter. The surrounding moorland landscape also preserves visible traces of medieval farming activity and post-medieval mining. Nearby prehistoric sites include barrows and other hut circles, illustrating the richness of the ancient landscape.
