Hingston Hill Carn Circle

Hingston Hill Cairn Circle, sometimes referred to as the Down Tor Stone Row and Cairn Circle, is a Bronze Age ceremonial complex located on a gentle rise between higher terrain to the southwest and northeast. The main feature is a stone row stretching approximately 351 metres, composed of about 157-174 stones of varying sizes, curving slightly with the terrain. At the western end stands a cairn encircled by a ring of upright stones, measuring about 11.5 metres in diameter, with the cairn itself about 8.5 metres across and 0.7 metres high. The circle is made up of 24-26 orthostats, each standing between 0.3 and 1 metre tall. At each end of the row are prominent terminal stones, the largest being 2.7-2.8 metres high. The landscape around Hingston Hill is dotted with other prehistoric features, including additional cairns, cists (stone-lined tombs), a prehistoric enclosure, and remnants of settlements and reaves (ancient field boundaries).
