Lourdes Cave Driebergen
The Lourdesgrot in Driebergen is situated on the former grounds of the Grootseminarie Rijsenburg, now part of the Seminarieterrein in Driebergen-Rijsenburg. The grotto is surrounded by an English-style landscape garden with mature trees, springs and watercourses dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as well as other historic park elements. Built on a small elevation, it forms a distinctive feature within the green surroundings. The structure consists of a small stone grotto with a rounded entrance, designed to resemble the cave in Lourdes, France, where, according to Catholic tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The site is part of a larger historic landscape that includes remnants of the 19th-century seminary grounds and garden structures.
