Devil's Quoits Henge

Devil’s Quoits Henge stands in open farmland near the River Windrush, just southeast of Witney and west of Oxford in Oxfordshire. The site consists of a large circular earthwork enclosing a ring of standing stones, which has been re‑erected to reflect the recorded prehistoric layout. The surrounding landscape is flat and expansive allowing the monument’s geometry to stand out clearly. The stone circle measures about 79–80 metres in diameter, while the enclosing henge ditch is larger and slightly ovoid, with a ditch and external bank defining its boundary, while the stone circle within adds a vertical element that contrasts with the low earthworks. Its setting within restored and partly quarried gravel extraction land highlights both its ancient origins and its modern reconstruction.
