Nuraghe La Prisgiona

Rising on a granite outcrop above the Capichera valley near Arzachena, in Sardinia's Gallura region, Nuraghe La Prisgiona is one of the largest and most complex Nuragic settlements in north-east Sardinia. The complex looks like a small fortified town: a central stone tower flanked by two lateral towers, joined into a triangular bastion, once stood at the heart of a village of around 90 to 100 huts spread across roughly 4 to 5 hectares. Vineyards belonging to the Capichera wine estates now surround the hill, and the panorama takes in rolling countryside stretching toward the beaches of the Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo, a few kilometres away. Less than a kilometre from the nuraghe stands the Tomba dei Giganti di Coddu 'Ecchju, a Nuragic "giants' tomb" that formed part of the same community's burial ground, making the two sites a natural pairing for a single visit.
