The Tombs of the Giants S'Ena and Thomes

Look for the stele first: a granite slab 3.65 m high that rises from a green plain in the valley of the Isalle stream, near Dorgali in central-eastern Sardinia. S’Ena ’e Thomes is a Giants’ Tomb, a collective burial monument of the Nuragic civilisation, described as the most important Nuragic burial monument on the island. A semicircle of upright stone slabs, the exedra, frames the stele and an 11 m stone corridor runs behind it. The final stretch is a short trail through Mediterranean scrub. The Nuragic village of Serra Orrios lies 6 km away, so the two make a natural pair for a day of prehistory.
