Lough Gur megalithic complex

Lough Gur is one of Ireland’s most impressive archaeological landscapes, located in County Limerick, set around a lake framed by low hills and farmland. The area is packed with prehistoric monuments, including the Grange Stone Circle (one of the largest in Ireland) alongside standing stones, wedge tombs, and traces of ancient settlements. The stone circle itself, with some stones rising over 2 metres high, stands out clearly within a grassy enclosure near the water’s edge. Close by, you can also spot the remains of crannógs (artificial lake dwellings) and clear signs of early farming life, all of which make this one of the most important prehistoric landscapes in the country.
