Merrivale Stone Rows

Located on the gentle slopes of Dartmoor’s western moorland, Merrivale is among the area's most important prehistoric landscapes, offering expansive views toward Bodmin Moor. The main features are two long, parallel stone rows running east to west, each formed by hundreds of small upright stones, with the southern row extending about 263 metres and the northern row about 182 metres. The site also includes a single shorter stone row, a stone circle, several standing stones, burial cairns, a cist (stone-lined tomb), and the remains of a Bronze Age settlement with hut circles to the north. The environment is rugged and exposed, with rough pastureland punctuated by granite boulders. Nearby, the Great Western Reave, a prehistoric boundary bank, runs past the monument, and other ritual sites are visible within walking distance.
