Midhowe Chambered Cairn

Midhowe Chambered Cairn stands along the exposed southern coast of Rousay, set close to the shoreline with wide views across Eynhallow Sound. From the outside, it appears as a long, grass-covered mound, now protected by a modern shelter that both preserves the structure and allows visitors to explore inside. At over 32 metres in length, it is one of the largest chambered cairns in Orkney. The site sits within a landscape dense with archaeological remains, including the nearby Midhowe Broch and several other prehistoric and later monuments, all linked by a coastal path that reflects the long history of human activity in this area.
