Our Lady of Chartres Cathedral

Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral rises on a natural promontory above the river Eure, perched on a rock face roughly 30 metres high in the heart of the historic town of Chartres, in the Centre-Val de Loire region about 80 kilometres southwest of Paris. Built mostly in the Gothic style, it follows a Latin-cross floor plan with a three-level elevation and its rib vaults climb to around 37 metres at their highest point. Two mismatched spires flank the building: a plain 12th-century tower on one side and a far more ornate Flamboyant Gothic spire, added between 1507 and 1513, on the other.
