Skara Brae Prehistoric Village

Located on the west coast of Orkney, near the wide sands of Skaill Bay, Skara Brae is a small cluster of stone-built houses set into a low mound close to the shoreline. The village is made up of a series of connected dwellings, linked by covered passageways and partially sunk into the ground for added stability and insulation. The surrounding landscape is open and coastal, shaped by strong Atlantic winds. Nearby sites such as Maeshowe and Ring of Brodgar highlight the remarkable concentration of Neolithic monuments in the area, placing Skara Brae within a wider prehistoric landscape of exceptional importance.
