Wideford Hill

Wideford Hill stands out on the skyline just west of Kirkwall on Orkney Mainland, rising to about 225 meters above sea level and offering incredible views across the islands, including Scapa Flow and the surrounding coastline. From the top, the landscape stretches out in every direction, with farmland, sea and islands all in view. The hill is also home to the Wideford Hill Chambered Cairn, a Neolithic burial monument set into its slope, connecting this natural high point with human activity from thousands of years ago. Other archaeological sites across Mainland Orkney highlight how important this area was in prehistoric times, shaped by both the landscape and early communities.
